Maddy Sasso is the Founder/Designer at Pinkly Perfect, Inc, a clothing and accessories line that aims to capture the magic of summer vacation all year for beach-loving teenage girls who love celebrating the best three months of the year, and need help coping with the other nine. You can shop her line at pinklyperfect.com – items are also sold at nine boutiques across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Maddy launched the company on August 1st of 2016 after realizing her dreams of opening her own company were something she needed to respect enough to pursue. We caught up with her to get more insight into what motivated her to start her own line and what keeps her inspired.
What motivated you to start your own business? Did it start as a side hustle?
I didn’t want to keep saying I was “fine.” I liked my job, I liked my friends, I liked my life but I wasn’t feeling super passionate about anything. Even though I knew from a young age I wanted to have my own company, it was always a “when” and not a “now.”
I just had a realization while taking night classes at FIT for starting a small business that it was a goal I needed to pursue. Then I had the idea for Pinkly Perfect and was so passionate about it (hint: I am the BIGGEST summer lover) that it became all I thought about. I loved coming home from work and working on it and I preferred staying in all weekend brainstorming ideas that I realized I owed it to myself to make it my full-time job. I am so happy with my life and everything that comes into it now is just a bonus to what I already created for myself–it’s the best feeling.
What inspires you day to day?
My parents are my biggest inspiration. They both came from very humble backgrounds and got out of it through hard work. They also taught me the importance of being a good person. I think Pinkly Perfect’s been a success so far a lot because I am so determined and thrive on taking on more than I can chew but also because I treat people with respect and am genuinely friendly and happy. When you’re a positive outlet for people in any way, they start to root for you too and want to help you succeed. I’m very lucky to have found that combination.
One piece of advice for aspiring boss ladies everywhere?
No one is going to start your own company for you and there will never be a more convenient time than right now.
